So I was at a Hillsong United concert last night and it was awesome! Those people LOVE Jesus, and it shows through their music. But what really hit me the most was the character of the band. The lead singer walked to the mic after the audience was freaking out clapping and a pastor was saying how great they are (and took an offering for them), and he said "guys....we just love Jesus. Anything you give is going to the church, to spread the gospel back home. it's not going to us."
Wow. This reminds me of the church in the New Testament where people gave everything to the church, and the church gave back when people were in need. What he said really convicted me last night. They take down all the things that give them security, belonging, and comfort, and they give it up; give it to God.
What would it be like if I lived like that. Or if you lived like that? Or if WE lived like that? I mean, not literally giving everything to the church, but just giving of yourself in general.
When we give more, it causes us to have less comfort and safety to rely on. When we have less stuff, we have to rely on God more. When we rely on God more, we have to trust him more. When we trust him more, it strengthens our relationship with him.
So giving strengthens our relationship with God. What is wrong with that?
Think about it.
that's real talk there mr.lassiter :)
